Our 2010 Homestead is a blend of 37% Grenache, 36% Syrah and 27% Mourvedre. Most of the fruit is sourced from exceptional vineyards in the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains as well as Paso Robles. This wine receives every bit as much attention as our top cuv_es and is fermented on native yeasts in the same 1+ ton fermenters and then aged in French oak barrels (42% new for this wine). Our first pick was on October 21 and consisted of equal parts Syrah and Grenache which we co-fermented. The second pick was on October 29 and consisted of Grenache and Mourvedre. The majority of the wine was aged 19 months in 300 liter hogs heads made with light and medium toast French oak known to integrate thoroughly and maintain transparency and pure fruit expression. The co-fermentation resulted in a seamless integration of the different varietals. The final blend is 49% Grenache, 39% Syrah and 12% Mourvedre.
