He's a little bit country, and she's plenty classy. He's December, she's may. He makes the wine for Stone Pine Estate and she cooks the food at their Sagebrush Annie's Café. Larry and Karina Hogan go together like grapes on a vine, and food and wine lovers are the beneficiaries. "We just won our 52nd Gold Medal in seven years!" Larry exclaims, clearly thrilled that his hunch about the Cuyama Valley, straddling Santa Barbara and Ventura counties east of the Santa Ynez Valley, has proved correct. In 1982, Larry planted the first commercial vineyard in the valley, after running cattle there for many years. As a closet winemaker, he'd noticed the climate was similar to Napa's.
